Bridge Reopens, Restoring Rivergate Thoroughfare

According to the Portland Bureau of Transportation, the North Lombard Street Bridge over the Columbia Slough in Rivergate Industrial District has reopened to traffic as of the afternoon of Monday, November 28. The purpose of the project was to replace the deteriorated bridge deck that carries traffic on N. Lombard St. over the Columbia Slough.

This is a prime connection for truck traffic within Rivergate, and completion of the rehabilitation project will end lengthy detour routes in the area. A new structural steel sidewalk being added to the south side of the bridge will also improve safety for cyclists and pedestrians.

City officials noted that the contractor will continue working for the next several weeks under intermittent single lane closures during daytime hours to complete the cantilevered steel sidewalk work. However, the road will be open to traffic during this time under flagging by the contractor.
